Reta Rug

Reta is a simple cotton rug of unbroken horizontal weaves, row after row of alternating warm sandy and cool grey threads running the full width of the rug without interruption or incident, with no motif, nor complications, only the rhythm of the weave pattern, repeated until the desired size is reached. Up close the weave is dense and tactile, the two tones interlocking in a tight flat structure that holds its shape and its warmth in equal measure.

From further away, the tones blend into a single unified field: the colour of dry earth, of natural fibre, of a room that has been lived in comfortably for a long time. The looped selvedge at the edge is the only small detail that as a small act of finish, acknowledges the hand behind the work and functionally prevents the rug from fraying at the edges. Reta suits spaces that have enough going on already. It does not ask for attention. It simply makes the cold floor comfortable and warm underfoot.
