Daiza is the Japanese word for pedestal, a base that supports and quietly elevates what is placed upon it. This trio of ceramic pieces combines shallow bowl forms with cylindrical bases, functioning both as vessels and as pedestals. Used individually, each piece becomes a vessel for fruit or cherished objects. Arranged together, their varying heights and proportions create an intentional composition. Stacked, they form a new sculptural presence.
The glaze incorporates volcanic ash from Sakurajima in Kagoshima; its dark surface recalls cooled lava, with subtle iridescent shifts that change with the light. As vessel and pedestal, Daiza creates a small stage for everyday objects, quietly drawing attention to what is placed upon them.
