Duna Coffee Table

Drawing inspiration from sand’s collective behaviour, with its properties lying between solid and liquid, designer Kajsa Melchior transforms the mechanical principles of granular materials into a coffee table with sculptural presence. Like grains gathering to create dunes, the coffee table’s aluminium base undulates in organic waves — its hand- brushed surface, by Porto-based metalsmith Leandro Cruz, creates a tactile topography that calls to mind both individual particles and fluid movement. Each curve is precisely calibrated yet appears naturally formed as if shaped by invisible winds. A tinted glass top floats above this sculptural base like a still pool reflecting the sky. The Duna Coffee Table transforms interiors through its playful abstraction of natural phenomena, creating a moment where the familiar becomes fantastical through the interplay of form and material.
